Wake Boarding

Sacramento River, CA

The Whiteheads were very hospitable and took us out on their boat to do some wake boarding and slalom skiing. They impressed us with their abilities to do both. We had a great time out on the river!

Kate here was getting accustomed to not only the boat, but our hosts.

My girls enjoying the warm breeze as we speed down the river.

So, this was only my second time attempting this type of water sport. A few years ago I failed to get up on a pair of skiis. Unfortunately today yeilded similar results. After 30 to 40 minutes and around a dozen tries, I failed to get up on the wake board. Check out the video clip below to see what I did over and over again. My reward, a tweeked shoulder and a bruised pride.

Sheryl tried her hand at both the wake board and the slalom ski. She didn't quite make it up. It wasn't due to her lack of form, she knows what she's doing, but rather holding on to that darn rope!

Here's our fearless captain. I appreciated his patience and guidance and felt bad tarnishing his impeccable record of getting people up on a wake board.

The girls quickly became comfortable on board and made their way to the water before the end of the day.

The girls were thrilled to get to help pilot the boat back to the dock. Audrey kept sounding the horn and issuing orders - "Hi, Hi, Captain!" (Audrey's version of "Aye! Aye!).

It was frustrating and a bit humiliating, but this is a basic representation of nearly every attempt I made!
